June Serious Accidents in San Diego

Some serious accidents have occurred in San Diego so far this month. We describe a few of the serious accidents below and remind drivers to be careful during this busy summer driving season.

June 11– A serious accident happened on Saturday morning which involved at least two Boy Scouts. A vehicle overturned near Lake Henshaw on state Route 79, just south of state Route 76. Authorities are unclear exactly what happened, but believe that a vehicle overturned and rolled over shortly after 9 a.m. The vehicle was carrying several adults and the children. One of the adults in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene and others had to be pulled from the badly damaged vehicle by first responders. Many were then airlifted to local hospitals to receive immediate medical care. According to authorities four individuals had to be hospitalized. Traffic was impacted as it was necessary for the medical helicopter to land on the road. The crash is still under investigation.

June 11– An early morning crash occurred in Oceanside on Saturday morning, resulting in the death of a man in his late twenties. According to authorities, the man was driving an older Mitsubishi when the vehicle’s tire struck a raised cement median, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The vehicle then hit two wooden posts and then rolled striking a traffic signal on the corner of state Route 76 and Coast Highway. Unfortunately, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. It is not believed at this time that alcohol or drugs had any impact on the accident. The crash is still under investigation.

June 12– An accident on the southbound Interstate 15  may have been caused by a medical incident. The accident happened near Aero Drive when a SUV went off the side of the freeway. Witnesses report seeing a passenger attempt to steer the car, but to no avail. The vehicle overturned and landed in a parking lot along the frontage road. The driver was removed from the vehicle using the jaws of life and taken to a hospital for their injuries. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. Traffic was affected for quite some time while authorities conducted their investigation.
